“It’s Personal”
And It Should Be
Men are convinced that the sharing of personal details is strictly off limits. Despite a deep need to share, we still find ourselves quickly constructing a roadblock - leaving us stuck with nowhere to go.
“I’m having a hard time, but it’s personal.”
Our self-imposed limitation often deems sharing “dead on arrival” - shutting down all attempts at vulnerability before they even have a chance to breathe. We convince ourselves that personal details are off limits, and that sharing without personal details is pointless - emboldening a deep-seated pattern of silence and inaction.
Men - it is time to question and deeply reflect on the cost of this stance. If we are to be vulnerable and reap the rewards of that vulnerability, can we avoid delving into details that reveal the deepest and darkest corners of ourselves? Do we have to choose between saying nothing and saying everything, or is there a middle way? And if there is, what is it?
